The Commission on Aging is responsible for planning, developing and coordinating services and programs for East Granby's senior citizens. The commission's scope addresses the health, welfare, education, and recreation. In addition, through the town's Seniors' Mini Bus, the commission provides transportation to the members of our senior population. The Commission runs a number of regular recreational activities for seniors, including card games, crafts and trips to local and not-so-local attractions. To fulfill it's goals, the Commission coordinates with a variety of governmental and private agencies, including service and civic clubs, like the Seniors' Club. The Commission provides information about its activities and news of general interest to seniors through a monthly newsletter.
The Commission on Aging meets the first Tuesday of each month. It is made up of nine members appointed to three year terms by the Board of Selectmen. The Senior Coordinator and Mini Bus Drivers are paid, part-time town employees.
